Generation Guiders: 2016 All-Girls Football Tournament

Participating in team sports is a proven way to boost self-confidence and foster a positive sense of self. Generation Guiders recognized the potential a football tournament could have to achieve a wealth of positive impacts for girls, and in 2015 they brought girls together for a 3-day inter-schools girls' football tournament.

In 2016, Generation Guiders aimed to double attendance. During the tournament, girls were provided with two hours each day of life skills lessons, presented by successful young women in Kenya. Generation Guiders also conducted an advocacy forum with girls’ football stakeholders in Githurai, and invited top girls’ football schools to conduct talent searches during the tournament. 364 girls from 22 schools participated in the tournament, and 5 girls were fully sponsored in secondary school as a result of their participation.
